The Vintage Kitchen: Muy Caliente Hot Chocolate

Brrr. Yep. Winter is definitely on its way. Time to start lining up the usual suspects… AKA the warm beverages. 😉 Except, I’m not so keen anymore on guzzling down a drink made from some powder processed to death in a factory; filled with every filler you can imagine. Plus, there always seems to be one or two “powder bubbles” that escape my mixing, leaving me with a burst of unwanted chalkiness. Surely, there must be a way to enjoy a hot, decadent sip of happiness without having to endure all this nastiness, right?

Fortunately, I think I have found just the solution. In a most unlikely place, I spotted a recipe for homemade hot chocolate in a manga called Kitchen Princess that takes only two ingredients to make—that’s it. How simple and nostalgic is that? But then, why stop there? Why not make something that is just as fiery and fabulous as we pin-up enthusiasts really are?

And so, with that, I give you MY take on this precious recipe. Behold…

Muy Caliente Hot Chocolate!!!

Ingredients:

Milk

1 Chili-infused chocolate bar

*Makes 2 servings

1. Chop up the chocolate bar as fine as you can. The smaller the pieces, the quicker it will melt.

2. Add the chocolate to a glass saucepan, and add 2 cups of milk. (Please DO NOT use a metal saucepan for this. It could cause the chocolate to melt too quickly, and for both the chocolate and milk to burn. Glass allows you to control the heat better.)

3. Put the saucepan on medium-low to medium heat, whisking the chocolate and milk constantly until all of the chocolate melts. The key here is time and patience, but you’ll start to see it become this nice brown colour. (And yes, I know that is not a whisk. I actually don’t have one right now. *GASP*) 😛

4. Keep stirring and whisking regularly until the hot chocolate just comes to a boil. Take it off the heat, and pour it in your mug.

Once prepared, you get a most rich and delicious flavour with the blending of the dark chocolate and the milk. However, it’s not long before your taste buds and your throat are awakened by the chiles; warming you up in the most delightful way. 😉
